Senior Public Affairs Officer

The City, London

My client a world leading not for profit membership organisation with over 23,000 members based in the City of London is currently looking for a Senior Public Affairs Officer.

 

The Role

 

To assist the Head of Marketing and Communications in providing a public affairs service to the institute,

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Monitor parliamentary statements and media coverage about members industry related matters and circulate to colleagues as appropriate.

Work closely with the Policy and Research team to agree key messages including statements and lines to take with key stakeholders.  

Draft and action stakeholder engagement and campaign strategies with guidance from the Head of Marketing and Communications, including gathering stakeholder intelligence and data for stakeholder mapping to raise the profile of the members industry and the institute in the UK Parliament and with key political / policy influencers and to promote the policies of the institute

As appropriate, support the National Directors in devising engagement strategies for the devolved Assemblies and Parliaments 

Broker meetings for with senior government advisors and officials, members of parliament and ministers to promote the policy aims and research of the institute

Maintain the CRM as appropriate with details of stakeholder communications.

Organise public affairs events including overseeing institute’s presence at party conferences and the parliamentary reception.

Source and edit content for and distribute the institute’s Stakeholder Briefing e-bulletin.

Manage the secretariat for the specific All Party Parliamentary Group. Undertake such other duties, commensurate with the post, as may be directed by the Head of Communications.

 

Person Specification

 

A good working knowledge of Whitehall, Westminster and the devolved governments

Experience of executing stakeholder relationship and/or campaigns

An enthusiasm for politics and an understanding of the role of professional institutes in influencing policy

A keen appreciation of what politicians and advisors need from professional bodies 

Can do attitude, ability to use initiative and to work collaboratively

Excellent written communication skills including a proven ability to produce high quality written work within short timescales

Experience of using social media

Good IT skills.

Ability to understand policy and legislation and communicate those effectively

Ability to build effective working relationships at all levels an organisation.

Ability to plan and prioritise a busy workload with conflicting priorities.
