Membership Development Manager
Professional Body
Basic Salary £30,359 to £35,522 dependant on experience plus a range of benefits
Permanent, Full Time
York Office Based or Home Based (Home based would require one visit to the office every week/fortnight) 

Our client a well-respected and reputable professional body based in York is currently looking for a Membership Development Manager to join their friendly team. 

The Role

To grow and develop the institute’s membership in terms of both recruitment and retention, to oversee membership administration and to administer the CPD, accreditations and registrations open to institute members and others. To line manage the membership team and to work with relevant institute committees and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

To develop and deliver member acquisition and retention plans, including marketing activity
To develop and continuously improve the member journey and touch points, driving optimal experience and satisfaction.
To contribute to the delivery of the membership strategy to help to achieve the institute’s strategic aims
To be a brand ambassador for the institute
To oversee and be responsible for the quality of the administration of the Institute’s membership processes by the membership team, including the information on the contacts database
To maintain good relationships with members and deal effectively with concerns, complaints or conflicts
Working with colleagues, to lead on customer service and responsiveness, helping with the monitoring of social media and supporting staff in handling incoming enquiries
To ensure the efficiency of the annual membership renewal process from the members’ point of view, and the provision of support and information to members renewing. 
To ensure that the institute’s equality, diversity and inclusion action plan is delivered in relation to membership activities, and to monitor the diversity of the membership. 


Experienced manager of people and budgets 
Experienced in marketing 
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Capable of working at graduate level
Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
Ability to be flexible and manage competing priorities
Ability to work with committees and volunteers
Self-starter capable of working in small team and providing cross organisational leadership and collaboration
Excellent inter-personal skills, resilience and integrity
Able to travel around the UK for occasional meetings or events
Outgoing, friendly and warm personality
Committed to own professional development


Experience of delivering successful member acquisition and retention plans
Experience of working with professional qualifications/registrations/CPD
Experience of working in the science, engineering or technology sector. 
Experience of membership organisations
Experienced in Office365 and other Microsoft applications
Experience using CRM databases ideally Silverbear – Microsoft Dynamics
Marketing or similar relevant professional qualification
Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing or similar relevant body
